Kineto Femtocell Gateway Adds Features to Address Enterprise Market
Milpitas, Calif. , Feb. 16, 2009
Kineto Wireless, Inc. , the key innovator and leading supplier of fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solutions for mobile operators, today announced the latest release of its industry-leading femtocell gateway. This new release adds key features to better support mobile operators seeking to target both the enterprise and consumer markets with their femtocell deployments.
"With this latest release, Kineto continues to demonstrate its leadership in the femtocell gateway market," said Michael Cooney, associate vice president of product management for Kineto Wireless. "We've introduced a complete set of enterprise features to our commercially deployed femtocell gateway product. This release also provides a solid foundation for operators looking to transition to the new 3GPP Iu-h gateway interface later this year."
Key enterprise femtocell features added in this release include:
Femtocell Groups: The Kineto femtocell gateway enables up to 20 femtocells within a single open- or closed-subscriber group. It also allows multiple groups to be deployed within a single facility, enabling a number of unique enterprise scenarios, such as having both open (guest accessed) and closed (employee accessed) femtocells in the same building.
Intra-group Mobility: The Kineto femtocell gateway enables mobility between femtocells operating within a group, including both roving (idle mode) and handover (active mode) support. It also supports both inter- and intra-frequency handovers.
Group Signaling: This latest release optimizes the signaling interaction between femtocells operating within a group and the femtocell gateway, resulting in a significantly reduced signaling load on the core mobile network associated with procedures such as handset registrations and intra-group mobility (e.g. roving and handover).
Differentiated Billing: Rather than a single tariff for any handset attached to any femtocell, the Kineto femtocell gateway enables operators to define multiple classes of billing rates based on subscriber location, subscriber type and individual femtocell or femtocell group. This feature seamlessly integrates with operators' existing billing systems and processes.
Just released to Kineto's global solution partners, this latest release of the femtocell gateway is expected to be available to operators next quarter. To date, the Kineto femtocell gateway is included in several commercial deployments and is currently running in numerous femtocell trials with major mobile operators worldwide.
